Customer reviews about the product:

this stuff is the greatest. by the way, you can use one pack to make up a gallon (2 quarts) of milk, if it’s in the same container. i open a fresh carton of milk, put the culture in, mix it with a clean utensil, then reclose it with a rubber band, and set it out at room temperature for 24 hours. no need to heat up the milk and cool it down, etc. the main thing, i think, is not to set the milk in the sun or anywhere where it will get too hot. kefir makes at a temperature lower than yogurt. and when you make it at home and it is really fresh it is better than store-bought.
Am very glad I bought this as the Kefir culture I managed to produce has from Yogourmet really helped me overcome some very stubborn gastrointestinal issues. The instructions are rather unhelpful. Do not boil the milk – plain milk straight from the fridge is fine. Another thing not mentioned or pointed out on the label instructions is that the first batch is not likely to turn out well and one won’t get the desired Kefir grains. I had to do a second batch derived from part of the first batch to get the grains to grow properly. But the third batch turned out perfect.
I use these to make Kefir with young coconut water. It works wel and much cheaper than Donna Gates.
I’ve tried grains, and I apologize to the purists out there, but this is MUCH creamier and more delicious than any recipe I’ve tried using “real” kefir grains.
I can’t believe how good this product is. This was my first time making kefir and the result was just amazing. I used 3.5% fat containing milk to get it extra creamy and the result was better than any kefir or yoghurt I ever had. I also was able to make 3 more batches using 1/3 as a starter and I only used 1/2 of the package for 1 liter.
Hardcore kefir fans might like the “grains” better, but for me, this is perfect. You can make a new batch of kefir by adding 1/2 cup of a batch into milk – and continue this process for as long as it tastes good. Google it! Makes an even healthier and tastier kefir!
when I had to eat it with a spoon I decided to use two quarts of milk per packet instead of one, and this makes it sooo very creamy to drink. I place my glass picture on a warm (170 degrees oven) stove top over night. Sits about 24 hours in all.
I don’t know how they call Biogarde in English, but if you make this Kefir, it tastes like biogarde. It’s a healthy drink and I take it every day after making it myself. When you make this, ou have to let it rest a roomtemperature, or 30 degrees Celcius. But my room is not always warm enough, so I put the kefir (when it has a temperature of 25-30 degrees) in a thermo bottle. It stays the same temperature for 24 days and after putting it in the refrigerator it’s ready to drink. You can sweeten it with some stevia.
I’ve used this starter for many years. It’s not true kefir. True kefir has over 20 strains of probiotic organisms. This has 4 strains. I do agree with other reviewers that not heating the milk gives a better result. I use this to make coconut milk kefir and also to make sour cream using half and half (really good!) I finally bought kefir grains to make milk kefir because I wanted the broader spectrum of probiotics not available in this starter. True kefir is not thick, it is thin. This is more like a thin yogurt.
I still give this 5 stars, because it is a reliable product.
My insides positively SING when I drink this stuff! Healthy and delicious – just how food should be.
This works great for milk and coconut water kefir. I’ve never used kefir grains so not sure how it compares to that, but I like this. It’s so easy to use.
I found that if you leave it outside for more than 24 hours the kefir is more sauer and I like it better. I normaly leave the mixture for 30-36 hours
simple to make.
I make a several batches of kefir from one packet. I add 3 portions of milk to 1 portion of kefir and leave it for 24 hours on the countertop. Taste grate.
It turns out very tasty yogurt. Not sour. It is possible to use the starter again.
I order this often. It always works. I leave it at room temp (around 30ish right now) for about 18 hours or so and it makes a nice drink. There seems to be a fine line between smooth, creamy and nice and separated and kind of disgusting. If I leave it too long, I don’t like it at all.
I’ve been using this with shop bought full fat organic cow’s milk. Followed the instructions on the box and kefir turned out very good consistency and it tasted great. I use a 1 part of already made kefir and 9 parts milk to make a new batch and it works a treat. I like my kefir a bit “stronger” tasting so I Let it sit for 26 hours. My favorite way to drink it is with fresh chopped dill and chives, and a tiny pinch of sea salt.
I had only had commercially made kefir in the past. This is not only better with fruit but is good without anything in it. Sometimes I mix about 2 T. of Lipton instant green tea mix and that is also really good.
Recommended by my friend to soothe some long-term gastrointestinal problems. Very easy to make and ready in 12 hours in summer (just like other comments, no need to boil the milk at all!) Kefir milk really helps lessen my stomach bloating and gastric reflux. In my case, a cup of it every morning before breakfast gives the best result.
When I’m too lazy to activate my kefir curds, I use this product: I don’t heat my raw milk at all. Use the milk (preferably raw) at room temperature and it forms the kefir overnight. That way you still get the benefits of raw milk as well as the fermentation of kefir.
This product has not worked for me. I have tried using goats milk heated gently to 82degrees, as per instructions on packet. After 24 hours in a warm cupboard, it remained as runny as the milk. I tried without heating – a minuscule amount of slight thickening appeared round the edge. I may as well just drink the milk. I won’t be wasting my money on this Kefir again. I can’t understand how people can eat it with a spoon. Maybe it just doesn’t work with goats milk.
Using it in fermenting foods like in Body ecology diet.
After moving to Korea I miss some of the foods that I am used to, especially diary. This kefir starter tastes really great and easy to make: just add it to milk and leave outside fridge for 24 hours. Simple, delicious and good for health!
Lo que más me gusta de este producto es que puedes hacer kéfir con leches vegetales (leche de coco) e incluso agua de coco. Soy una adicta al kéfir pero si tengo alternativas no lácteas para mantener mi flora intestinal a punto mucho mejor.
Using kefir grains are very “high maintenance” and troublesome, but this is just great… do the same thing without the fuss . Getting another box soon
Half box of milk 500ml with half packet, excellent!
Love this product. It is so easy to use and saves so much money. I have tried it with heating the milk and not heating the milk. They both worked but I find I prefer to heat it a little. All you have to do is heat milk, add starter, leave on counter for 24 hours and you have Kefir. I already ordered two more boxes. Awesome product all around!
Very handy to carry around and make kefir everywhere!
Except I haven’t had success in growing kefir grains, maybe it needs more time & effort…
I’ve tried making kefir twice with this brand and it never really seems to form well. I might be doing something wrong, perhaps I need to leave it out for longer than 24 hours. Not too sure about this.
I followed the instructions carefully, but because I’m using raw goat milk, I did not want to heat the milk over 100 degrees. It didn’t get thick the way I like it, and the taste was not nearly as good as the freeze-dried starter from body ecology. I will try it again only because I have a few more packets. Maybe it will work better with cow’s milk.
I received a small bar of soap instead of the Kefir starter that I ordered, and yet you took my money from my charge card. I do not want or need the soap, but do not want to incur further loss of money by sending it back.
Please credit back my charge card or send me what I ordered.
Thank you for your kind attention, sincerely, Joyce Tansley
Not much else to say, just love making it at home..
This is a great product. First I made kefir from a litre of milk and it was very creamy and tasty. Before finishing the first kefir, I kept about 4-5 spoons of kefir and mixed it with another litre of boiled milk. I am doing this for about a month now and I haven’t used yet a second packet of kefir starter, but mixing the old kefir with new milk.
Good product.
Wow
I love love love this one!! Extremely fresh tasting and easy to prepare.
my favorite drink
now I have everyday
easy to prepare
a neutral taste
Real tasty kefir! 5gr is enough for 2 liters! I use a low fat milk and make it in a paper pack which milk comes in- easy and fast to make!
Very good. Easy to use. My daughter made it in the dehydrator.
Easy to use
Very nice. It can be a bit thick, so you may want to use a little more milk than suggested.
Taste is amazing!!! Real real creamy and a bit sour kefir! Very easy to prepare, recommend for everyone!
Love this Kefir, it’s easy to make, tastes great and as all the lactose has been digested and there are billions of the good flora in there, I know it’s good for myself and my son… definitely be back for more…
Thanks again guys
Steve
I’ve succeeded making my first batch. The texture is good. I used half the amount as others suggest.
I am happy to be able to now make my own kefir. It tastes better than the store version and is all organic. I have made it with and without bringing the milk to a boil. It’s great both ways. I am really pleased this product is available.
The product worked great and was a good price. It also arrived in just a few days. I will proba bly order again.
Tried to use it with yogurt maker with attempt to make yogurt, no reaction whatsoever. Used live bio yogurt as starter worked better. Waste of money!
Wow, this is gold! Worth every penny/cent. User-friendliness and the end results made this an immediate favorite in our family.
It’s not easy to find live kefir starter around here any more (that was en vogue during the 80’s…), so this is a handy option, and I’d say this is at least as good as any live starter might be. The slightly tart taste beats anything sold in the supermarket. I love cultured dairy products, and know a great deal about them, but this is absolutely some of the best I ever tasted.
I love to make my own kefir, so there is no added sugar. This is so easy and quick.
Great kefir very similar to kefir good Soviet times.
This produce is simply great, easy to start and easy to cultivate, great to drink and keeps you going for long! Thanks!
